Carbono Verde Afforestation Project
IssuingThe project is shows that massive afforestation is economical in the Amazon with the help of carbon credits. The total area planted as of 2023 was 23,000 hectares. The project has struggled financially over the years as the cost of every aspect of the project doubled or tripled between 2019 and 2023. The goal of the project is to plant an additional 8,000 hectares in 2023 and 2024. The project has a total of 24,000 hectares planted. This will result in 32,000 hectares planted prior to 2025. In total by 2025 nearly 40 million trees will have been planted. All funds recieved by the Project Owner go back into planting, paying down previous debt created from the projects first years, or paying the operational staff salaries. The operation has greatly benefitted the community. There are over 450 full time staff and numerous part time staff that come seasonally. Community events take place in local villages, sponsored by the project and landowner. A tree nursery in the city has over 50 employees indirectly created for this project, as they create the treelings for planting.
